Upscale retailer Nordstrom Inc. and its online arm will take a serious plunge into the $19 billion wedding gift and registry market through an alliance with The Wedding List, a multi-channel retailer. The deal, announced yesterday, leverages the relationships of The Wedding List and Nordstrom’s online and offline properties to launch later this spring a gift registry area at Nordstrom.com.
“I think it’s important for us because it helps us reach into a new market and extends our direct relationship with the consumer,” said Shasha Richardson, spokeswoman for Seattle-based Nordstrom.com.
The co-branded registry targets couples looking to register and gift-giving consumers. It will offer more than 200 upscale brands, including Bernadaud, Saint-Louis and Ralph Lauren.
Consumers can access the registry area by clicking on a Wedding List tab at the Nordstrom.com home page.
Based in New York, The Wedding List stocks gift merchandise from top brands. The 2-year-old company sells through stores in New York, Boston and London and via its catalog, toll-free service and Web site.
As a corollary to this partnership, Nordstrom Inc. will invest $1.5 million in The Wedding List.
