A&F Quarterly, Abercrombie & Fitch’s holiday 1999 magalog, shows no signs of being any less controversial than last year’s book. The Columbus, OH, marketer’s latest catalog features racy, sexual content, including an adult conversation with comedian Andy Dick and an illustration of Santa’s wife portrayed as a dominatrix. A quarter of a million copies of A&F Quarterly, targeted to college-age consumers and distributed instore and through subscription, is polybagged with an editor’s note that reads, “Due to the mature content, parental concern suggested for readers under 18.” The fall 1998 magalog featured a two-page article called “Drinking 101,” which prompted groups like Mothers Against Drunk Driving to rail against the cataloger. Company spokesman Hampton Carney said no complaint calls have been received. “We try to put together a book that is interesting and fun to read,” he said.
